131: [EDUCATION] 3 Questions to Ask Yourself Before the Start of 2024
Show Notes Transcript

Before we step into the new year, I want to encourage you to take time to reflect on 2023 in a really intentional way. In today’s new episode, I am sharing with you three questions to ask yourself as you work towards 2024. These questions will help you to start 2024 with a clear direction and *hopefully* help you make space to reflect on 2023 and close it down in your brain.

Wanna journal on the questions in today’s episode? Copy and paste them somewhere safe so you can reflect on them later!

  1. As I think back on the year, what is one word that comes to mind to describe the year? How does that word make you feel?
  2. As I reflect on 2023 as a whole, what are 2-3 things I’ve done this year that I am insanely proud of? Have I celebrated them? Where can I write these things down so I can remind myself of them later?
  3. Knowing what I know about how 2023 went, what direction feels best to head towards in 2024? What do I need to start to plan for/think about in order to go that direction?

I know I say that every single week. But like, I'm excited for every episode. So I'm not lying. But I'm really excited for today's episode because we are going to be digging in and I'm going to be giving you three questions that I need you to marinate on over the next four weeks, the last four weeks of 2023 that are going to really help you to set yourself up for success in 2024. And also just make sure that you're kind of doing some end of year reflection. I feel like at this time of year, and I know that I am not guilty, but like I do this in this podcasting space, and I do it on Instagram. I feel like during this time of year, all of the like lifestyle and coaching people out there on the internet, myself included, start to talk about reflection, setting intentions, vision, casting, all of those things. And I love it. I love it because this is the time of year to do those things. Right. This is the time of year to take a step back and breathe and think about the year because holy crap 2023 is already over, which is bananas, literally bananas, um, and in search really set ourselves up and help other people set themselves up you talking to you for a new year. And that's what we're going to do in today's new episode. So if you want to, I have typed out the questions that I'm going to ask you in today's podcast episode, in the show notes, you are more than welcome to copy paste them into a Google Drive or write them down in your journal and or maybe even like a notes in your phone, and just really marinate on them and reflect on them if you want to write about them feel free. But I'm really, really excited to dig into these questions. And I hope you walk away with some direction and some guidance in terms of starting your end of your reflection. If you have not yet already started to do that process. Now I have to give a shout out to my ladies in the sunshine squad community because today's podcast episode is actually inspired by them. In the month of December, we're really digging into casting intentional visions and setting intentions for the new year. And these are some questions that I posed to them back in November. And so many of them had so many great reflections and started so many great conversations. And I just want to remind you that if you are looking for a space to join a community to be part of that sees you hears you understand you wants to see you when wants to encourage and support you and then and inspire you to like go after your biggest frickin dreams. The Sunshine squad community is that space. Literally we have women in there who are self employed who work standard nine to five jobs, who are married, who are single, who have dogs who have cats, all of these other things. And we all come together in this beautiful melting pot of you know, female camaraderie to encourage one another every single week to set goals to make progress to live lives that we are truly obsessed with. And live lives that bring us joy every single day. And if you feel as you start to reflect on 2024 that that is something that you have been missing. If connection or community has been the things that you have felt like you'd have needed in 2023, then you need to join the sunshine squad because this community is the place to be not only do you get the community and the connection that comes with being part of this space, but you also get to live coaching calls with me. You get tailored mentorship and support in terms of chasing goals or getting after certain things that you want to do starting habits, getting routines, put in place all of those things. And now is the best time to join because we're heading into a new year, so you'll know that you already have people in your corner. As you start to make progress towards your goals or aspirations for 2024 You will go into the year knowing that you've got your community your support on lock, which is going to feel amazing, I just know it so if you are looking for a community or connection heading into 2024 Definitely check out the sunshine squad. I will link that down below in the show notes as well for you. And if you have any questions or you're not sure if it's for you, feel free to hit me up over on Instagram, my handle is at living the letter N sunshine and I would be happy to chat with you about it. It's such a special place the women in there are freaking incredible. I'm obsessed with them. And I would love to have you be part of this space as well. Okay, so let's go ahead and dig into our three questions that you are going to ask yourself before the start of 2024. Okay, so these are questions that I want you to marinate on, I want you to think about them journal on them if you're a journal or all of those things. Okay. Question number one is, as I think back on the year on 2023, what is one word that comes to mind to describe the year as a whole? Okay, so not only what is the word that comes to mind, but how does the word that comes to mind make you feel? Does it make you feel proud? Or maybe a little uneasy? Does it make you feel successful or joyful? Maybe it makes you feel a little bit disappointed, right? I want you to think about the year as a whole, right? And just let whatever words come to mind come to mind. And the reason I want you to do this is because it will help to give you a starting place as you go into 2024 to set the intention of what you want next year to look like. So let's just say if you thought about 2023, and your word that came to mind is chaotic. Why was it chaotic? What about 2023? Felt chaotic? And how does the reflection of 2023 and the fact that the word that comes to mind is chaotic? How does that make you feel? Does that make you feel disappointed? Maybe disorganized? Maybe a lack of direction? Right? Why do you feel the way you feel about your year being summed up by the word chaotic? Maybe the word that you thought of when I asked you the question, right? What is your year that describes 2023? Maybe your word was joyful? How does that make you feel? Hopefully happy? Or more confident? Or maybe even excited? Right? But why is that your word? And how does that word make you feel? Because again, when we know where we are ending a year, or a milestone that we've hit, or achieving a goal when we know how we have ended, we know where we are starting when we start to make progress on our next step. So for us right now, as we were answering these questions, we are wanting to know where we're ending 2023. So we know where we're starting in 2024. So that's the first question to ask yourself, as I think back on 2023, what is one word that comes to mind to describe the year as a whole? And how does it make you feel marinate on it? Question number two, as I reflect on 2023 as a whole, what are two to three, at least, like in parentheses, at least? What are two to three things I've done this year, that I am insanely proud of? Right? We you without a doubt, have done things in this year that you should be proud about. Okay. And if you don't know what those are at the top of your head, I want you I am going to encourage you to please take some time today to brain dump all of the things that you've accomplished this year, big, small or otherwise, and just really marinate on them. Be proud of them. Because I know that you can find two to three things to be proud of that you've done in 2023. I know that you can. And the follow up question to this is have I celebrated them? Have you celebrated the things that you are proud that you have accomplished this year? Because if not, you are crushing your motivation to go forward. Right? I've said this before I say it within the six weeks to you accelerator. If you're not sure what that is. I'll link it down below. It opens up in January, we are more inclined to continue to keep working towards our dreams, or our goals or whatever it is that we're working on. When we are celebrated. Think about it. Have you ever wanted to continue to do something that you felt bad that that someone told you you were you know terrible at or that someone made you feel bad about because you weren't making it happen? No, we are more likely to continue to show up and do the work that we need to do to design and live a life that we love when we are consistently celebrating our wins. And so if you are thinking back to these things that you are really proud of which you should be proud of them, and you haven't celebrated them. I know Need you to put it on your calendar somewhere in the month of December, you are going to celebrate the heck out of the fact that you did those things that you're proud of. Okay. And then the last thing that I'm going to have you do is I'm going to have you write those things down and keep them safe somewhere, right? Whether it is popping them in a planner, popping them in a journal, putting them in your phone, I want you to start to make a list of things that you have done that you are proud of. So that way in the future, you can look back on them and be like, damn, I did that thing. I like I completely forgot I did that thing. But I did that thing. I personally, I've talked about this before, I keep a list of things that I think are really cool, or that I'm proud of in my Asana, and a really special spot. And when I'm like having a down day, or I'm having a hard day, I hope go and read that list and be like, Wow, this girl did this, I can get through what I'm going through right now, because I've done all of these really cool things in the past. And I'm really proud of these things. And then I make sure I celebrate them. Okay, so two to three things, what are two to three things that you have done this year, that you are insanely proud of? And have you celebrated them? And if you haven't, it's your job. It's your homework that in the month of December, you celebrate those things. All right. And the final question for you that I want you to think about that I want you to reflect on and marinate on for 2024, before 2024 hits, is knowing what I know about how 2023 went? What direction feels best to head towards in 2024? Where am I going? This question is crucial. Because again, how are we supposed to know what goals to set? What words to choose which intentions to do? Which visions to cast? If we don't know where we're going, right? This is this is 100%. That situation where you're like, Oh, I'm going to go on a road trip. But I'm not going to plug the final destination into my maps. And I have no idea where I'm going like how are you going to get there, right. So knowing what you know, about how 2023 One, what direction feels best to head towards. If you look back on 2023, and you realize that you spent so much money eating out or going out to the bars on the weekend or staying up late or whatever it is. And you know, you feel it, you see it, you've experienced your health declining in whatever way, maybe the direction that you need to head towards in 2024 are sustainable habits that support your overall health and well being right. Maybe as you reflect on 2023, you realize that the business that you started is no longer something that's bringing you joy, maybe the direction that you start to head and 2024 is closing that business down and doing something else that makes you happy, right. But again, we have to make space to reflect on what has happened this year. Before we rush right into the next one, we have to finish the book we're currently reading, before we start to read the next one. That's kind of the metaphor I was thinking about when it comes to starting a new year like finish the what you're currently reading before you move on. Because if you don't first finish what you're reading, you're not going to be able to fully enjoy the next thing, right? Because your brain is still going to be sitting in that old book and that book that you never finished, you've got to finish this year with reflection. So that way you can go into 2024 with a new direction and a new purpose and a new idea as to where you want to go. Right. So with this last question, the second thing you can start to think about is, what do I need to start to plan for, or think about in order to go in that direction. So if you are telling yourself if you're reflecting and you tell yourself in 2024, I want to shut down my business and go back to a normal nine to five, you know, W nine job? What do you need to start planning for now, in order to make that happen? So as we get closer to 2024 and wrapping up 2023, I want you to think about these questions I want you to again, marinate on them, reflect on them, talk about them with a friend, journal about them, whatever it might be, because I know that it's going to help you to start 2024 Really, really strong because you've taken time to marinate, you've taken time to reflect and you've given yourself space to really digest the year instead of just running right into the next one instead of just closing the door and 2023 and pretending like it never happened. If it was you know, a great year or a terrible year, whatever it was for you. We still need to reflect on it. So take these three questions. Let them simmer in your brain over the next couple of weeks. And if you want to chat about them, feel free to send me a message on Instagram.
